THE TEATRO REAL PRESENTS THE 2020-2021 SEASON,
ADVOCATING THE GRADUAL RETURN TO NORMALITY
AND LOOKING TO THE FUTURE WITH CONFIDENCE
Among the 15 opera titles, 5 new productions stand out and these will premiere in Madrid:
Rusalka, by Antonin Dvořák,─ a co production with the Säschsische Staatsoper of Dresden, the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía of Valencia─ is presented for the first time since the re-inauguration of the Teatro Real. The production is by Christof Loy, Stage director of the acclaimed Capriccio by Richard Strauss seen last season. With the complicity of Musical director Ivor Bolton, Loy returns to explore a mythical and mysterious universe tinted with a tragic resonance and populated by nymphs, sprites, princes and princesses who intone beautiful melodies and bring the characters to life in two casts led by Asmik Grigorian and Olesya Golovneva, accompanied by Karita Mattila and Alexandra Deshorties; Eric Cutler and David Butt Philip; Katarina Dalayman and Okkavonder Damerau, Maxim Kuzmin-Karavaev and Steven Humes.
